Catarina Sequeira joins the lab as a postdoc

We welcome Catarina Sequeira, who joined the lab on 14 September 2026 as a postdoc funded by our ERC Consolidator Grant, SelfDriving4DSR.

Catarina is a cell biologist. She did her PhD in Biomedical Sciences with Edgar Gomes at the Lisbon School of Medicine, where she used mouse models, primary muscle cells and super-resolution microscopy to study how skeletal muscle positions its nuclei and organises its blood vessels after birth. She then spent a short postdoc in the same lab, combining optogenetic tools with live imaging of muscle fibres and their stem cells.

With us she will measure how light damages cells during live imaging, design observation protocols for adaptive microscopes that keep that damage low, and map how pathogens infect cells at the nanoscale. She brings wet-lab and imaging experience that pairs well with the lab's work on automated and AI-driven microscopy.
