Estibaliz Gómez-de-Mariscal, a postdoctoral researcher in our lab, was recently interviewed by Helen Zenner at FocalPlane. In the interview, she discusses her career path, the importance of collaborations, her project DL4MicEverywhere and reflects on her experiences during her PhD and postdoc, highlighting the value of working with multidisciplinary teams and learning from different perspectives.
During the interview, Estibaliz Gómez-de-Mariscal talks about her initial work in developing microscopy image processing methods and how her passion for research was sparked through collaborations with experts like Denis Wirtz. She expresses gratitude for the guidance and critical discussions provided by her supervisors, which have been instrumental in her growth as a researcher.
Her postdoctoral work at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) under Ricardo Henriques has allowed her to delve into super-resolution microscopy and develop new machine-learning methodologies. Gómez-de-Mariscal also emphasizes the importance of understanding the biological phenomena behind the images when working with computer scientists and engineers, and contextualizing the analysis for biologists.
The interview also covers her involvement in creating deepImageJ, a platform that integrates deep learning with ImageJ, and her contributions to resources like DeepBacs for bacterial image analysis and the BioImage Model Zoo for accessible deep learning in bioimage analysis.
Gómez-de-Mariscal's work exemplifies the intersection of biology and technology, and her interview on FocalPlane highlights the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing microscopy and bioimage analysis.
