Fast4DReg–fast registration of 4D microscopy datasets
DOI: 10.1242/jcs.260728

The manuscript introduces Fast4DReg, a new tool for fast and efficient registration of 3D microscopy datasets to correct axial and lateral drift. The tool uses intensity projections and 2D cross-correlation to estimate and correct drift between frames, outperforming other state-of-the-art open-source tools in terms of speed and performance. The researchers evaluated Fast4DReg, along with Correct3DD and Fijiyama, in a study that generated synthetic datasets with varying signal-to-noise ratios and tested the tools on real-world datasets. Fast4DReg provided the best drift correction performance in all cases, and its execution times were also faster than the other tools. The study was supported by various grants and acknowledges contributions from several individuals and institutions.
