Research Team

Victor Puelles is a Professor of Complex Tissue Analysis at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University (Denmark) and at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (Germany). His research focuses on the development and application of tissue-based technologies to dissect pathophysiological processes across different biological scales - from whole organs to subcellular compartments. He is particularly interested in kidney disease, employing innovative approaches for spatial characterization of tissues in health and disease conditions.
His laboratory has pioneered advanced imaging and analytical techniques that have contributed significantly to understanding kidney pathology, including crucial work on SARS-CoV-2 renal tropism and kidney fibrosis. While primarily focusing on kidney research, his technologies are applicable to multiple organ systems, with active collaborations spanning virology, neurobiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and hematology. His work combines sophisticated imaging methods, quantitative analysis, and molecular profiling to gain deeper insights into complex tissue architecture and disease mechanisms.
